Colour Therapy

'This therapy is not being done to you, but through you and with you'

What is Colour Therapy?

Colour therapy is a non-invasive complementary therapy that treats the whole person, and can be used safely with other forms of therapy or medicine. To maintain our bodies adequately we need to absorb the right amount of sunlight. This in fact consists of all the colours of the rainbow, which can be seen through a prism. So colour has a role to play in the functioning of our bodies and, furthermore we all have an affinity with colour. We absorb it naturally from daylight through our skin and eyes unconsciously. Colour therapy also draws from the eastern philosophy that the body is made up of energy vibrating at different wavelengths of colour. This in turn is reflected by the energy field surrounding the body and within the body. Stress and diseases causes an imbalance in theses energies, and by applying the right colour, it assists the body’s own mechanisms to restore equilibrium for wellbeing and healing.

Our ancestors utilised colour healing, and today colour therapy is being recognised for its transformational healing properties to restore well being on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.

Colour therapy is also a wonderful medium to use with children who are ill.

What does colour therapy do?

  • Colour therapy removes blockages on a cellular level that may be stopping you moving forward or appearing as symptoms of illness
  • Helps you to absorb food nutrients more effectively
  • Helps to restore equilibrium back within the body when disease appears, so the body’s own healing mechanisms are boosted and triggered
  • Facilitates pain control and management
  • Helps to prepare for surgery, and helps after surgery
  • Helps to manage stress and to restore natural balance
  • Creates change on an inner and outer level
  • Helps us to use the correct colours in our environments
  • Fortifies the body's own energy fields

How is Colour used?

Colour can be applied using a variety of approaches: Mind energy (visualisations and meditation), lights radiated on to specific parts of the body using lamps or special torches(for acupressure), the laying on of silks or natural fabrics like cotton on your body, adapting your environments and dress, using crystals, art, sound,(affirmations/song/mantras), reflexology, breathing, diet, counselling, and essential oils.

What Can Colour Therapy Help?

No illness or disease is excluded from this therapy. For example some of the most common ailments treated by colour therapy are: SAD, stress, Insomnia, low self esteem and emotional issues, bereavement, apathy, depression, altering destructive behaviours and patterns eating disorders, drug addiction, for image awareness and for improving our environments. It can also support someone living with a terminal illness or preparing or recovering from surgery.

How does it Work?

Colour therapy works by applying the right colour(s) to bring about balance. Each colour having a specific quality, wavelength and frequency it will go to areas of the body that also have the same frequency and wavelength. Hence the colour quality will be drawn magnetically into the cells that have the same vibration; and by doing so it will bring the body back into equilibrium. Enabling the body to naturally regenerate and heal it’s self using it’s own chemistry to do so, as far as is possible.

It has been proven that colour which is light split into different wavelengths and frequencies; produces biochemical  and hormonal reactions in the body. Furthermore  we all have our own electromagnetic field surrounding the body. This is seen as light or energy in bands of different colours, surrounding the body. It is called the aura. With Kirlian Photography this can be captured on film.  Colour Therapy impacts and treats these energy bands to then also imprint the physical body. Traditional medicine trends only to treat the physical body and not the energetic counterparts to be found surrounding the body (in the aura),which in ancient schools of thought are considered the’ blue prints’ of the physical body. This perhaps explains the recurrence of an illness long after the patient thought the problem had been solved, and when amputees still feel they have complete limbs even though they have been removed.

The overriding goal of Colour Therapy is to "tap" into the root cause of a problem or illness. As once this is achieved, patterns can change not just in  the client’s mind but body; in a harmonious and natural way; using the body’s own resources to regenerate and heal it’s self.  As we all have an affinity with colour it’s a wonderful ‘vehicle’ to unravel the many layers disease or illness  wraps itself up in.

Old 'Medicine'

Colour Therapy is not some new age fad to recently surface. It has it’s origins in ancient civilisations of Greece, Egypt, India and China. In Egypt for example there were temples erected to utilise sunlight to shine through coloured Gem stones like rubies and sapphires  on to the sick. Also the Canon of Medicine ( One of the most influential medical books ) by Avicenna, a Persian Physician (980 –1037) stated that the colour  blue stemmed the flow of blood and red stimulated circulation.

Colour In our Environments and Dress

Colour has been used purposefully in a variety of environments for decades. In hospitals for example you will find colour schemes that support recuperation, healing and rest. These will tend to be in pastel shades of blues, greens and yellow. Too much white makes one feel isolated and not supported, and makes one reflect a lot. These emotional states would not be helpful to any one recovering in hospital away from loved ones. Even hospital uniforms are predominately green and blue. Also blue light has been used for a number of years to treat jaundice babies, cancers, eating disorders and various addictions. Whilst in schools to stimulate learning  a mild shade of yellow is used. In potentially volatile prison areas you can find shades of pink to encourage the right kind of  behaviour between inmates-consideration, kindness and gentleness. Whilst in the food industry red combined with yellow stimulates appetite. Examples of this in action are Mcdonalds and  Burger King; both of which are fast food outlets where a lot of sales  are spontaneous  purchases. So the Psychological effects of colour must never be under estimated; as we are always absorbing colour vibrations that alter our moods and consequently our actions.

Colours are magical and when we understand the statements they make, and their qualities; we can use them to assist us in our well being, in achieving our goals, and how we would like people relate to us.

So the next time you feel:

  • "Out of Sorts"
  • A "little blue"
  • That "nagging" pain is back
  • Need a make over
  • Exhausted and stressed
  • Low immunity and energy
  • Can’t move forward
  • Destructive patterns are recurring in your life
  • Red rag to a bull syndrome predominates in all your relationships
  • You look older than your years
  • Need support and empowerment to move forward
  • Want to work with yourself and not against
  • Looking to the heavens…..
